Carob Powder
Carob is a sweet powder derived from the pods of the evergreen Mediterranean carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua). It is a valuable source of dietary fiber, a wide range of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, and D), and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium). Carob serves as an ideal substitute for cocoa and sugar in chocolate and confectionery products.
Carob powder is used in the preparation of baked goods such as biscuits, cookies, gingerbread, wafers, glazes, creams, and in beverages and desserts to add a chocolate-like flavor, aroma, and color.
How to Use:
For a beverage, dissolve 1 tsp of carob powder in a cup of hot milk. When replacing cocoa powder in confectionery recipes, use an equal amount of carob powder, but reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe.
